FAQ

RAID combines multiple drives to improve performance, redundancy, or both. The amount of usable storage depends on the RAID level chosen; for example, RAID 5 uses one drive's worth of capacity for parity, allowing the system to tolerate the failure of one drive without data loss. Click to read more RAID knowledge.

For a 4bay NAS, the best RAID level depends on your priorities for data protection, performance, and usable storage capacity. The common RAID options for 4 drives include RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10. If you’re unsure which setup offers the right balance for your needs, you can read our blog post on Best RAID NAS configuration for home users to explore detailed comparisons and real-world use cases.

Use RAID for redundancy, but also maintain external backups because RAID is not a substitute for backup. If you want to explore a range of reliable strategies beyond RAID, our guide on the top 7 data backup methods in 2025 covers everything from cloud syncing to offline rotation—ideal for building a solid protection plan.

Use strong, unique passwords; disable or rename the default admin account; enable two-factor authentication; change default network ports; enable SSL for encrypted connections; set up a VPN for remote access; and keep firmware updated regularly. For a deeper dive into these tactics and why they matter, check out our full guide on ensuring home NAS network security.

Use antivirus and anti-ransomware software, keep firmware up to date, maintain offline or offsite backups, and enable immutability features if available. Learn more ways to prevent ransomware.

This NSA has 8GB ram

This NSA has 8GB ram and a 32GB eMMC Storage for the operating system and programs. I got this to text a Plex 4K server and Time Machine backup for a Mac Book Air M2. You need two SSD installed for disk cache. I would prefer if it had 10GB ethernet ports, but two 2.5 GB ports is better than two 1GB ports.

First thing to know,

First thing to know, this is beyond your regular NAS hardware. It has enough features to replace a file server. Everything from full raid support (raid 0 - raid 5) to media server abilities for those they want to start their own digital media library. It does help if you have an IT background or are technical savvy as the features can be overwhelming at first glance. Thats not a bad thing, as most features are pretty rock solid. So far I have used it constantly to transfer files for the past month and not even one hiccup. Also has a nice "app store" where you can even get more tools/app to help you keep organized and set files permission base on user access. As someone who uses this type of hardware every other day, this is one of the best NAS i ever use. If you need one, buy this one. You won't go wrong.

Popped my hard drive

Popped my hard drives in and connected it up. I am so happy I dont have to rely on any cloud service but my very own. I was able to connect and set up several computers and phones without any issues. This is probably the best investment I've made yet. As a photographer and digital designer, having all this space at my fingertips, instantly, is more than I could ever ask for.

In my spare time, I

In my spare time, I love doing photography but after a few years of doing this as a side gig, the data piles up fast! I wasn't willing to keep spending hundreds of dollars for both cloud and regular storage that's already at a certain limit and knew that if I were to continue down this path, I'll have so much to juggle. That's why when an opportunity to try this UGREEN NAS out, I jumped at it and boy am I glad they came at the right time! This model is a 4 bay enclosure meaning it can take up to 4 hard drives and with regular hard drives being cheaper tb/money-wise than SSD prices nowadays, it's a no brainer you want to get the best bang for your buck. Personally, I heard a lot of good things about being refurbished so that's exactly what I did and the setup process was flawless as well as fast! The neat thing I love about this UGREEN NAS environment is that they also have a cloud storage-like system as well where you can access your files from your phone or anywhere as well as being able to create a download link in case you need to share. Now all of my photos are backed up in a nice little place and I won't have to worry for years to come!

I am a novice at NAS

I am a novice at NAS units. Nope, when I ordered it, I thought it was a cool desktop computer, with a lot of storage capacity. However, a friend of mine, who is a very, experienced, talented, networking "Geek" tells me that it is "AWESOME", and under used. He is teaching me how to set up a network, and we have backed up all our files. It is also compact enough to be able to take back and forth to between our homes, which means that it has the value added benefits of me learning, and my friend, and I spending more time, together
